[Chimera-users] color surface by electrostatic potential from apbs dx file

Hi Mathy,
Maybe it is confusing because the surfcolor command is not connected to the settings in the Surface Color dialog. The electrostatic potential file is actually one type of volume data, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say the surface is colored by volume data, not by electrostatic potential.
For Surface Color, the only difference in treatment of electrostatic potential and other volume data is the default dialog settings, and these are not connected to the command.
If using the scolor command to color by electrostatic potential, you will probably want to use the "offset 1.4" option,
<http://plato.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/UsersGuide/midas/scolor.html#volume>
which corresponds to the "surface offset" option in the Surface Color dialog when it is set to show electrostatic potential. There should not be any need to use the dialog when you are using the command.
I hope this helps,
Elaine
