[Chimera-users] saving moved maps

Hi Erika,
The basic problem is that the map file formats don't allow for
rotation/translation information.
If you fit a map to an atomic structure, it is better to save the PDB
file relative to the map rather than vice versa. For example, use
"File... Save PDB" in the menu and make sure to choose the option to
"save relative to" the map model.
For saving a map fitted to another map, you could just save the
Chimera session, which will preserve the orientations of the different
models. However, if you want to save a map file to use in other
programs, it is necessary to resample the map that you fit on the grid
of the map you fit into. Resampling interpolates data values so you
may lose a little resolution.
You can create a resampled map with the "vop resample" command and
then save that new map with the Volume Viewer dialog or "volume"
command.

I hope this helps,
Elaine
