If you use chimera's Help / Check For Updates dialog, it will tell if if 
there is a newer version available on the chimera web site.  And as part 
of that dialog, it will tell you your current build number and the newer 
build number.  By default in the 1.4 release candidates, that check is 
done automatically for you every two weeks, so you'll be informed when the 
final production release is available.  You can change the interval in the 
Preferences General category.
