[Chimera-users] surface color and coloring particular residues

Hi Mike,
Currently "custom coloring" (as with Surface Color) and "coloring
based on the atoms" are mutually exclusive for a given surface.
The slightly wacky workaround:
- open the structure twice
- show surfaces for both copies
- color the surface of one copy with Surface Color
- color the other surface with the residue colors you want (only the
ones you want to show through matter, so don't bother doing anything
with the ones that will still be shown with the custom coloring)
- undisplay the atomic patches of the first surface where you want
the others to show through
We might change surface handling in the future so that this issue
does not arise, but for now, this approach works! If you need more
details on how to do any of those steps, let me know.
Best,
Elaine
