/usr/lib is the right place. Run "ldd /usr/lib/libGL.so.1", and if you
see "not found" in the output, then one of the libraries libGL is linked
against is missing which will cause it to fail to load. You can also use
the strace program to figure out what went wrong. If you email me the ldd
output and the voluminous strace output ("strace chimera 2>&1 >
strace-output.txt"), I should be able to pinpoint why your Debian system
has problems.
