Hi Emma,
Although the answer is no, you can't do it with the current version of
chimera, it would be possible. There are issues of how to do the color
blending (i.e., which color space) and how big the transition area should
be. I'll file it as a bug and you'll get email when we fix it (may be a
long while though).
