UCSF ChimeraX version: 0.8 (2018-11-30)<br>
UCSF ChimeraX version: 0.7 (2018-08-07)<br>

I get a file named filename.png in ~/Desktop/. Maybe you are using an old version that doesn’t have the option? I think it’s been in there a long time, however. Make sure you are just entering plain text without special characters.<br>

Also shorter versions of command are possible, e.g.<br>
save filename.png transparent true<br>
… but my testing just now used exactly the same command that you did.<br>
