here is what is happening:<BR>

1) config<BR>
macpro nvidia fx 4500, using chimera build 2382 2007/04/17.<BR>
two displays, crt set at 800x600 120hz. lcd set at 2560x1600.<BR>
stereographics emitter exxr.<BR>
<BR>
2) problem 1<BR>
protein is loaded into chimera and camera mode set to mono.<BR>
stereo sequential mode selected, protein disappears. program does not abort.<BR>
<BR>
3) getting stereo working<BR>
set camera mode to stereo sequential. load protein.<BR>
<BR>
4)problem 2<BR>
set camera mode to stereo sequential. set camera mode to mono.<BR>
Chimera aborts, with or without datasets.<BR>

btw, I plan to do some research on USB-HID connections with chimera.<BR>
I have a number of devices I will be testing.<BR>

Apple has added X11 stereo support, so it should just work. You should<BR>
try it and let us know (because we don't have one to test on). We have a<BR>
report that resizing the graphics window when it is in stereo doesn't<BR>
work, but we don't know if subsequent Apple updates fixed the problem or<BR>
not. If it is still a bug, the workaround would be to start chimera up<BR>
with the size of window you want with the --geometry option.<BR>

I believe the chimera aqua version works better in stereo (and gets you<BR>
multisampled antialiasing), but the Tk GUI has problems (which is why it<BR>
isn't recommended).<BR>

Perhaps others on this list can share their experiences?<BR>
