[Chimera-users] Technical advice on synchronizing display on two monitors under Centos 6.5

A caveat, we don't have any Linux systems with NVIDIA graphics and two
screens right now, so this is generic advice.
Also, I have a bias against laptops that have business graphics, like
the NVIDIA NGS4200, but it should still work. And I have a bias against
using a server Linux, like CentOS 6.5, instead of a desktop Linux, like
Ubuntu for 3D graphics -- the X server in the desktop Linux
distributions is better than the one in the server distributions and the
graphics drivers take advantage of that fact.
So my first recommendation would be to switch to Ubuntu 14.10 and
install the proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver from the Ubuntu
repository. If you want to stick with CentOS, then I'd recommend
upgrading to version 6.6 or even better version 7, but even if you stick
with 6.5, you should the latest NVIDIA driver from nvidia.com.
Then, use the nvidia-settings program to set the display configuration.
If nvidia-settings doesn't do what you need, then read the extensive
release notes for the NVIDIA driver (typically in
/usr/share/nvidia*/html/index.html) and edit the X configuration manually.

Greg
