Hi Miriam,
It saves your previous window size -- maybe you used a small window
the last time? The graphics window is the black area, and when it is
small, there is a white unused area around it to accommodate the width
of the menu and command line.

However, regardless of how you arrived at this point, you can get rid
of the white part and go back to manual resizing with any of the
following:

- using command "~windowsize"
- manually resizing the overall window smaller so that all of the
white area disappears, then dragging it larger again
- using command "windowsize x y" where x and y are the desired width
and height of the graphics window (and large enough so that no white
area is needed)

I hope this helps,
Elaine
