Turns out this was caused by enabling SCIM, so the user could type in
Chinese characters. and that turning it off fixed chimera. From the web,
an alternate solution should be to leave SCIM on, but turn it off just for
chimera by running the following command:

 	env XMODIFIERS=@im=local chimera

Some versions of Linux use IBus instead of SCIM by default, so it is
unclear how extensive this problem is. So if you are experiencing this
problem, please report it (to me), so we can have a record of which
versions of Linux have this problem.

 	Thank you,

 	Greg
