[Chimera-users] label3d

Hi,

I wish to be a little more positive about label3d-like functionality in
chimera. Assuming that you are willing to live with what chimera
produces, rather than use neon or conic, then there is a good chance that
the functionality that you need will be there in the next 6 months. The
font software that we use has the capability to do what you want, but we
need to expose the functionality to our Python layer and work out an
appropriate GUI. Our next step, however, is to work on reducing how much
memory chimera uses and figure out how to speed chimera up.

I've created an entry in our bug database for your request so that you
will be notified when our internal version of chimera has label3d
functionality. The next snapshot or production release after that email
will contain the functionality. There is also a slight chance that I'll
incorporate the label3d functionality while we're working on optimizing
chimera.
