So yes, something outside of Chimera is messed up.
Assuming you're running Chimera on the same computer you've installed the
graphics driver on, then you can confirm that driver is installed
correctly by examining the output of the glxinfo program and confirming
that the OpenGL renderer is a NVIDIA one. If that doesn't work, then it
might be as simple as forgetting to reboot the computer after installing
the driver. If glxinfo fails, then make sure to read the NVIDIA release
notes and try installing the driver again.
If you are running Chimera remotely, then it might or might not work
depending on which graphics drivers are installed on the remote server and
the local client. According to this recent Linux OpenGL meeting (23 Sep
2012), <http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTE5MTY>, it
sounds like that if both ends have NVIDIA drivers, it might work,
otherwise cross your fingers and hope for the best.
